Our Story
We became fast friends in 2007 when we lived in Maryland and were teachers at the same school (Larisa taught Middle School Art and Anne taught 2nd Grade and Technology). Now, nearly 15 years later, we are nothing short of family!
Our husbands’ jobs eventually brought our families to Lake Norman, and we quickly realized that lake life is the best life! The lake is effortless, casual and inviting... a place equally perfect to relax and unwind or party till you’re sunburned and run out of beer; to spend a week on vacation or to feel right at home. In our book, there’s nothing better than a sunny day boating with friends on Lake Norman, or the wind in your hair as you open up the throttle, crank up the tunes, and wave to the other boats you pass on your way. We’ve found the best “me time” to be spent on a paddle board right around sunset. But we also love the communities that surround the lake… the easy way of life, the small-town feel, and the southern hospitality that just didn’t exist up north.
One thing we noticed was the lack of Lake Norman specific apparel that is soft, cute, and on trend. We were looking for quality, stylish, and flattering tees to show off our love of the lake, so we decided to make them! With Anne’s degree in graphic design and Larisa’s degree in Art, coupled with our pride of where we live, LKN Local was born.
In case we haven’t made it clear yet, we LOVE THE LAKE (!!!) and also care deeply about protecting it. That’s why we donate a portion of our proceeds to the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation and Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists, two foundations that are committed to advocating for protecting and enhancing the water, natural resources and wildlife habitats of Lake Norman. Our shirts not only look good, they DO good, too!
